This is an accessible introduction to defending the Christian faith from a presuppositional point of view.
The 2nd half of the book is practical, going over issues in apologetics such as the problem of evil, the presuppositions Finally a presuppositional apologetics book that I understand!
He discusses the idea of autonomy:. How can an atheist point to his own reason as the final arbiter of truth, when that very reason comes from a random universe which contains no meaning or authority in itself?
Also read this book before you spend tons of time studying evidences for the Christian faith. The down side is that a lot of Bahnsen’s proof texts do not exegetically support his claims.
He took pains slways remind his readers of what he referred to as the Magna Carta of Christian apologetics, 1 Peter 3: They’re academic papers but I think you would enjoy it. Aways book erady an eye-opener for me as far as Christian apologetics is concerned. The way he dealt with the “problem of evil” in one of the later chapters of the book was by itself worth the price of the book.
The second part adress several philosophical problems of our time naturalism, the problem of evil, plurality and relativism. What a joy it is to be bahnsn to stand our ground This seemed a solid introduction to presuppositional apologetics.
However, in my estimation, the editor Randy Booth did a good job organizing the various chapters in the book in a clear, logical order.
He has in glorious ways, has He blessed you with Salvation? Verse 8 describes it as the “elementary” principles of the world. My only somewhat critique of this book is that for a book designed to be introductory, it does dive deep at times.
It is both accessible and scholarly. But as for me I can rest assured knowing fully that before I was born none of this was of any importance to me, and so I let it be. Definitely recommend this book. It has not been an easy read for me by any stretch of the imagination, but very helpful. Lewis and Finding God Larry Crabb. We are to be humble, respectful, and above all Gospel-focused.
The Christian should not be ashamed of this fact. Highly recommended and I hope this will get me in the right mind-set to tackle Van Til, one of Bahnsen’s teachers, in the future. Reaey foregoing considerations not only establish that there is no neutral ground between the believers and unbelievers, but also that there is ever present common ground between the believer and the unbeliever.
It corresponds to reality, and even non-Christians must assume the God of the Bible to be true in order for reality to be intelligable at all.
I do believe it’s the best single academic and pragmatic book I’ve ever read on the subject of apologetics.
